The second and third place winners of the Synergy contest haven’t uploaded their videos to other hosting sites yet, so we’re going to feature one that didn’t win. Ramzienator, the brave soul that he is, submitted his very first machinima to the contest. As luck would have it, he lost third place by one vote. He requested some (fairly kind) feedback from the Moviewatch audience.
Remember that all scripts for the Busted films are the same and that they were asked to follow them faithfully. Ramzienator’s version lacks the fancy effects that the winning verson had. You can definitely tell that he used WoW Model and Map Viewers. The characters seem out of place, and in certain scenes where the ground shakes, the background goes out of aspect ratio. Sometimes the music totally disappeared and then reappeared just as mysteriously.
There’s a long way to go to be on the top of machinima. However, almost placing in this contest with your first machinima is good encouragement. The bulging eyes at the end were a cute touch, too! Don’t give up! What say you, critical audience?
The limited edition Final Fantasy VII silver PSP is leaving Japan, and going to Europe, just in time for Crisis Core’s release. A special bundle, which includes this engraved PSP and a copy of the PSP-exclusive action RPG, will hit European retailers on June 20th for 189.99 Euros.
Combined with a special edition version of the game, Square Enix is trying its hardest to make up for the delayed release over the Atlantic. For many jealous fans in the US, it looks like they’re succeeding.
Although not a ton happened to Rogues in this latest patch, we at WoW Insider like to keep our coverage well-rounded, so let’s run down the Rogue patch notes.
Combat Potency now only works on auto-attacks (i.e. not Shiv). I think we can agree that all the shivving was getting pretty silly.
Fan of Knives is castable if you don’t have a target, looks prettier, and no longer plays an impact on the caster. It also benefits from Find Weakness, and its cooldown was reduced to 10 sec.
Instead of making the rogue untargetable, Killing Spree now causes all players to lose targeting on the rogue and causes the rogue to be unstoppable during its duration.
Riposte’s disarm duration is no longer reduced by other effects that reduce disarm duration. This note confuses me, because Riposte doesn’t disarm anymore. They probably mean Dismantle.
Shadow Dance no longer increases the cooldown on various abilities that require stealth (Sap, Garrote, Ambush, Cheap Shot, Premeditation, Pick Pocket, and Disarm Trap). Feel free to Ambush as much as you have energy for, but don’t get too attached to cooldown-free swirly ball Disarm Trap; that’s getting nerfed for sure.
Overall, it’s buff time in Rogueville, as it seems to be for nearly everyone else. The Combat Potency change is essentially a bug fix. FoK’s cooldown was cut by two thirds, and you can’t argue with a prettier effect. I’m not really sure what to think about Killing Spree’s change. I guess it means you can still take damage, if the opponent can manage to target you, but I don’t see it as a big deal. And I hear many players are still not particularly impressed with Shadow Dance, but I would expect Ambush’s numbers to add up pretty quickly. Have any beta players played with this new version?
Update: missed one: Glyph of Shiv replaced with Glyph of Vigor, which gives 10 more extra energy if you have Vigor.
With all the Gears 2 news hitting the interwebs lately, we totally forgot to mention that YOU can experienceGears 2 awesomeness at this year’s E for All Expo. You read correctly, this Friday, October 3rd through the 5th at the L.A. Convention Center, you’ll be able to play Gears 2’s multiplayer Horde mode which is technically the mode’s official “debut”!
So, if you’re in the L.A. area or are already attending the E for All Expo, be sure to stop by the World Cyber Games booth (#649) to experience violent Gears Horde mode goodness.
In the wake of Fable 2’s impending release, Microsoft and Lionhead Studios just launched a new Fable 2 Destiny advertisement which is, well … good.
The new ad doesn’t push Fable 2′s visuals, gameplay or even the friendly little pooch that’s always by your side. Instead, their latest ad centers in on the hero you become and the choices you makes that determine what you’ll become. Evil, good, clean, dirty, tattooed or on fire, it’s your choice. It’s a great ad and we’re totally loving the flickering candle effect.
A list of tentative Priest Glyphs have been released into the recent beta for Wrath of the Lich King. Since I am no expert in Shadow, I’ll defer an examination of those Glyphs to the resident WI guru. All I can say for the most part is that these Glyphs show promise. I’ll go over the Glyphs that affect the healing Priest (Discipline or Holy) and discuss their application raid environments, PvP environments and otherwise.
Glyph of Lightwell - Increases the amount healed by your Lightwell by 1 to 6%
So here is Lightwell as it is currently in the Wrath beta. As you can see, a level 80 max rank unbuffed Lightwell offers 4620 health over 6 seconds. Let’s assume that lady luck is with you today and you managed to hit a 6% increase. Your Lightwell now heals for a whopping, jaw dropping, fear inducing 4900 healing (give or take). Now is that really worth a Glyph? I don’t think it’s worth a Glyph slot. But before we judge too quickly, lets move on down the list.
Miraculously, it appears that Gas Powered Games’ Dungeon Siege franchise has survived a Boll-ocalypse — that is to say, it’s getting another game even after being “adapted” into a hilariously calamitous Uwe Boll film. Speaking to Eurogamer Germany (English version), Gas Powered Games boss Chris Taylor has divulged some of his plans for a third orc-killing romp.
“There will be some things that are very much like Dungeon Siege 1 and 2, but some things will be simplified,” he said. “I am done with multi-character parties; I really think that it’s all going to be about a single hero. It’s too much to manage.” We can certainly get behind the idea of having fewer people to manage, as long as our hero has enough to do by his lonesome. For instance, it would be nice to be granted a choice in whether we’d like to hack or slash any given enemy.
We expect to hear more on the topic once Gas Powered Games completes work on Space Siege. Which is a lot like Dungeon Siege … but in space.
If there was one highlight from last night’s CES keynote we’d have to say Bill Gates and Robbie Bach’s Guitar Hero III-off was pretty entertaining. Actually, neither actually played the game as they each had their own “ringer” to play for them, but that’s half the fun. We’ll agree that it’s a bit scripted, a bit awkward at times and a tad of a stretch, but seeing Bill Gates bringing Slash on stage and watching the over-production of it all is simply priceless. Not to mention the fact that we have Les Paul faceplate envy and hope Microsoft hooks us up with the one they used on stage. Relax, watch and enjoy.
It’s a good thing that Microsoft got its gloating in about selling 10 million units in the US, because the Wii will not only hit that number, but probably surpass it this month. Deutsche Bank analyst Jeetil Patel did the math and found that the Wii currently sits at about 9.5 million units in the US. If Nintendo’s console sells another 700k units (like it has been) this month and the Xbox 360 sticks to its 200k level, the Wii will blow right past its competition’s US install base.
It’ll also be interesting to see the impact Wii Fit has on the numbers when it launches next week. Microsoft can take solace in knowing that it can always fall back on saying the Xbox 360 still has the “largest global install base of any current gen, high definition gaming console” … right?
It’s pretty clear that despite it’s flaws, I love the Arena.I know that a lot of people don’t but usually the forums are filled with complaints rather than constructive criticism.I was pleasantly surprised by a post in the PvP forums that was amusing and made a great analogy for the Arena Syatem.Phel of Tichondrius compared arenas to the NBA. I’ve included his complete list after the break.
