Today Midway released the first screens of the upcoming street-ball title, NBA Ballers: Chosen One. Where is EA Sport’sNBA Street you ask? Well, for the last few years the NBA has restricted Midway and EA to release their respective street ball franchises every other year. So, NBA Ballers hits in ‘08 and in 2009 EA will release another itteration of NBA Street. We don’t want to go on an opinion tirade but this system is the way every sports league should promote their brand (*cough* Sup, NFL *cough*). Oh and by the way, NBA Ballers: Chosen One also looks pretty nice too.
Shovelware has graduated to the next level: irony. Turns out Mastiff plans to debut its coveted Major League Eating license on WiiWare, when the service launches May 12. Players will literally simulate the shoveling of food into their mouths using Nintendo’s patented Waggletech(R). You thought busted TVs were bad? Wait till someone swallows a Wiimote.
Major League Eating: The Game features two-player offline play, plus an online mode and leaderboards. Players will be taught to use various techniques — like the cram, toss and typewriter — while engaging opponents with an arsenal of ‘gurgitatory’ weaponry, including bites, burps, belches, mustard gas and jalape

Good evening ladies and gentlemen (cue the WoW Insider Show intro music). For tonight’s entertainment, I present to you a fully functional PTR - complete with Sunwell Plateau and lots of goodies to play around with. Well, at least it’s evening if you’re up with me at 3:00 a.m. when I’m posting this.
But even if you’re not a night owl, now is probably your last chance to head over to the PTR and test out all the goodness that is patch 2.4. Blizzard had shut it down until now, possibly to just test out one or two other things before releasing the patch soon. My bet is still on March 25th. I have no little birdie in my ear saying that’s a for sure thing, but I just have this gut feeling I’m right. If you’ve participated in the guess the release date contest, you might be under a week away from winning a nice 60 day game card.
I had to apply a couple of patches when logging onto the game tonight. It only took about 10 minutes though. Not too bad. We’ve looked over the patch notes and in-game items and can’t find anything different - although perhaps there are some changes we’re overlooking. However with that said, often times Blizzard will make the “undocumented” changes on the PTR right before they release the live patch. Who knows what those are…
People keep telling us that there are these strange creatures called “girls.” Supposedly, they shy away from the things we love, like games and violence. Not so, says Patapon. Sony is targeting their Japanese ads towards the finer half of our species, most likely trying to recreate the success that LocoRoco had with the traditionally non-gamer market. We think the combination of cute cuddly creatures and horrifying war violence will really target a more feminine taste.
Luckily, on February 7th, we gamers got our own red carpet show, as The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences hosted the 11th annual Interactive Achievement Awards in conjunction with the DICE Summit at the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. Blizzard, of course, managed to snag a few rewards of their own. Not only did the Burning Crusade pick up Massively Multi-player Game of the Year, but Blizzard President Mike Morhaime was inducted into the Academy’s Hall of Fame.
Gamespot had video coverage of the event, which you can check out here, or if you’d rather just cut to the meaty stuff, the Academy’s website has a PDF with a list of the winners here. You can also check out some wider commentary on all the awards from our friends at Joystiq here.
Variety’s video game blog Cut Scene reports that during a conference call yesterday with analysts that DreamWorks Animation CEO and industry veteran, Jeffrey Katzenberg, partially blamed video games for the paltry performance of Shrek the Third on DVD. Now, let’s ignore for five seconds that the third Shrek film was a soulless shell compared to the other installments and take note of a mega Hollywood player like Katzenberg joining the chorus that video games are to blame for an industry’s slumping sales.
Don’t feel too bad for DreamWorks, it stands to gain a nice chunk of change from its licensing deal with Activision for games based on Kung Fu Panda and the sequel to Madagascar. There is also a second Kung Fu Panda game slated for release in the fall tied to the DVD release. As much as there are mumblings of video games cutting into other media’s revenue, Shrek the Third’s DVD sales are easily blamed on it being a mediocre film — but nowadays blaming video games is so much sexier.
Originally on of the very first “next-gen” titles unveiled, Dark Sector is finally gearing up for release, and is shaping up to be a solid (if late to the party) title. The game’s multiplayer was recently shown to a handful of news outlets, and the impressions and details coming out of them are rather promising. The third-person action game will have a host of multiplayer options, with gametypes such as Infection (similar to Juggernaut), and “Epidemic” (similar to VIP). Not only are there many gametype options, but the other features for the game are rather robust as well, with a full leaderboard (complete with so-called TrueSkill), as well as bot support. Funnily enough, only us 360 gamers will be getting the more advanced matchmaking features such as quick, custom and ranked games. Whether this is because Microsoft aided in the multiplayer side of things is unknown, but we undoubtedly got the better deal here. Dark Sector releases on the twenty-fifth, until then, check the multiplayer gallery below.
I’ve been doing the daily quests a lot lately (for time invested vs. reward received, they are great), but I kind of agree with a comment one of you readers made earlier this week– sooner or later, they just feel like a job you’re doing. I’m still glad Blizzard is down with the idea– patch 2.3 is going to bring cooking and PvP daily quests to do.
But I still the idea is missing something. So this morning, we’re giving the mic to you– what would your perfect Daily Quest be? It has to be interesting enough and varied enough to keep doing day after day, and yet it has to be simple enough to do in a short amount of time. A good daily quest can’t be anything that epic, either– a daily quest to kill just one guy over and over would be a little strange, but it has to be epic enough that you want to keep doing it every 24 hours. Taking out the trash is too boring for us adventurers to call a “quest.”
So if you were designing the perfect daily quest, what would it be? What day-to-day jobs in Azeroth would make for a good task for players to do for a reward every day?
The rumors of Skype support coming to the PSP have now been confirmed by Japan’s Nikkei Net news organization. Unfortunately for most PSP users, however, the news service stated that Skype support will be limited to the PSP-2000, but that it may come as soon as this month.
Skype service will be free for PSP-to-PSP and PSP-to-PC calls and vice versa. Additionally, users can register for a dedicated number for around $20 every three months for what should provide support for landline and cellphone calls. The software will more than likely be part of a future firmware update, and users will use an external microphone for communication.
At this point, we’re not entirely sure why service is limited to the PSP-2000. Could there be some other hardware addition to the updated handheld that we didn’t previously know about, or could this be a diabolical scheme to get us to upgrade our PSPs? Whatever the case may be, we know we certainly want to use this new technology that more or less answers the question whether Sony is interested in a PSPhone.
The sound of human silence is deafening a mere 48 hours into the online Super Smash Bros. Brawl experience. With some vigorous testing, we’ve discovered five simple ways to bring the mysteries of voice chat to the Wii. Harnessing the power of other consoles, or a com-pu-ter, the joy of sharing voice while playing online with someone hundreds or thousands of miles away can be experienced by many. Don’t forget to check out our list of Brawl friend codes if you need some online buds.
Xbox Live: Or as we’ve come to know it — Brawl LIVE(R). Just set up private chat and off you go. Got more than one friend? Go into a Halo 3 lobby (you do have Halo 3, right?)
PSN: Start up a new chat under the “friends” section of the XMB. Invite all the friends you want and wait for them to join. Works and sounds exceptional! USB and Bluetooth compatible.
Skype: Set up a conference call.
TeamSpeak or Ventrilo: Guilds, clans and other computer types know these services. Perfect for guildies brawling together.
