I’ve enjoyed the heroic daily quests recently added to WoW. In addition to the new badge rewards, they give me a reason to run five-player dungeons again, which is really one of my favorite parts of the game. While some of the quests have led to frustrating situations where the group is trying to learn the strategy for a heroic dungeon that none of us have attempted before, most of my experiences have been good ones.
One downside of the random nature of the quests is the fact that the same dungeon can be selected several days in a row. On my main server, Auchenai Crypts has been selected three times over the last four days. This dungeon was considerably nerfed in the last patch, but some of the encounters are still annoying and many of my guildmates have expressed their growing distaste for the instance.
Have you had much repetition in the new daily quests on your server?
The Burnout series has always had a penchant for looking good. With that in mind, it looks like Burnout Paradise is set to raise the bar again. GameTrailers has posted a handful of new videos showing off some of the cars in the game, and it is hard not to be impressed by the visual fidelity presented here. Our only gripe, the stupid cars stay in one piece. Where’s the crashing, damn it?! Ah, well, for now you’ll have to be satisfied with death-defying jumps and traffic evasion. Someone owes us an explosion though.
The worst part about finding huge skeletons in game is the fact that what is now a skeleton was once a living creature. What sort of creature left these bones behind, what sort of creature killed that creature, and is the second creature still around?! Run! Hide! Er… ahem.
What I’m trying to say is that Gitr sent us this shot, telling us that it’s located in Stranglethorn Vale, nestled on the ocean floor between the land and the water elemental island off the northwest coast. But for my part, I still advise all potential visitors to take a wide berth around those fangs…!
Do you have a unique shot of Azeroth or Outland that you’d like to show off to the rest of the world? Tell us about it by e-mailing a copy to aroundazeroth@wowinsider.com, with as much or as little detail as you’d like to share with the world!
So we’re not sure what to tell you about this supposed clip of the recently-announcedGhostbusters game from Dutch site Game1. It looks really good to us, but so did the Zootfly version we saw a few months ago, and that turned out to be a side project some company was putting together for laughs, so it’s hard to say. Speaking of which, this video has a similarity to those first YouTube clips we saw of the Zootfly game, though this is way more polished.
So, we present the above video to you as is, with no guarantees as to its authenticity, other than logic and our own gut instinct. Of course, it would probably be easier to tell what was going on if, you know, the whole thing wasn’t in Dutch. Side note: If you want to see something that we know is official, check out this teaser for the game.
We’re going to do something a little different for our Fanpoll this week. Rather than take a static poll, we’re going to ask our readers to submit individual ideas. Radical thinking, hmmm? As it turns out, we’re also straining to come up with a question that would be easily answerable by a static poll, so we’ve decided to steal a topic from our Joystiq mother ship: what features would you like to see in the Xbox 360 Fall Update? We already know that it won’t be IPTV, so what could it be? Do we have any prognosticators out there that can foresee the next big Xbox 360 bell and/or whistle? Let us know what you’d like to see — or predict what you think will come true — in the comments.
Also, check out the results from last week’s Fanpoll after the break.
Honestly, the results of this poll surprised us. We had figured Rock Band would be the victor, but Guitar Hero III enjoys a healthy lead over its peripheral-heavy cousin, though there is a large percentage of people opting to buy both. The majority that chose Guitar Hero III cited a better track list and a much lower price as primary reasons for picking it over Rock Band. Rock Band proponents, naturally, are looking forward to the various instruments it utilizes. There you have it. The people have spoken.
Freshly brewed news, straight out of Take-Two’s corporate maw: the mega-publisher, parent company of Rockstar Games, has announced the settlement of all consumer class action lawsuits pending in the United States” related to the infamous GTA: San Andreas “Hot Coffee” mod. Take-Two has committed at least $1.025 million on the settlement, and their costs are capped at no more than $2.75 million.
In short, if you swear that you bought a copy of GTA: SA before July 20, ‘05, further swear that you were “offended and upset” by the existence of the Hot Coffee mod, further further swear that you wouldn’t have bought the game if you did know about it, and further further further swear that you would have returned that vile piece of entertainment software if you “thought this possible.” If you swear to all that, you may be entitled to exchange your icky disc for a brand new, shiny disc devoid of any such hot beverage action.
Not interested in a new disc? You want to know, “how ta get paid”? Well, if you submit detailed proofs of purchase, you may be entitled to a $35 cash payment which you can put towards that $90 GTA IV collector’s edition (whenever that comes out).
Todd McFarlane has been busy high atop McFarlane Towers (which is a bit more fancy than Fanboy Towers) trying to figure out new ways to capitalize on Halo 3 fanboys’ love of his ever increasing collection of Halo 3 action figures. And his persistence paid off, because he came up with two new money making ideas … the use of color and armor permutations.
Just announced are five new Master Chief action figures (all viewable in the gallery below) that include Master Chief sporting Mark VI armor in red, blue and white, a red blue C.Q.B. armored Spartan and a blue red E.V.A. armored Spartan too. All five newly announced figures will be available March 2008 and some will be available exclusively at Wal-Mart or specialty stores nationwide. McFarlane, you little entrepreneur you.
Hey New Yorkers, what’cha doing this Sunday evening? Watching Extreme Makeover: Home Edition? Oh, you’re watching “football”? Wait, is that the same thing as Madden? Nevertheless, you’ll want to ask the TiVo to take care of your teevee and instead head over to the Nintendo World Store at 10 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City (yes, the same place that had the Phantom Hourglass event about a month ago) for a special Super Mario Galaxy launch event. Here’s the details, as just shared with us by the Big N:
Festivities include a DJ, dancers, a Velcro wall, a bungee run, a trivia contest, a laser light show inside the building (we imagine it will be preceded by a Nintendo safety warning, so epileptics, stay at home), Mario himself (no word on Dr. Buzz Aldrin), and 250 Wii systems for the chronically Wii-less masses out there.
The shindig starts at 8pm, but that don’t mean you shouldn’t get there earlier; they’ll close at 10pm and reopen again at midnight when the game officially goes on sale (for those of you who don’t already have it). The ’stiq oughta be there, what about you?
Nethaera has confirmed that there will be no new battlegrounds revealed prior to the release of Wrath of the Lich King, much to the chagrin of PvP’ers everywhere. Although players have previously expressed interest in having more choice, Blizzard has voiced concern about the effects that a fifth choice might have on queues. Hopefully they have some tricks up their sleeves for combating this when the highly anticipated new battleground arrives via the expansion.
Although this is a bit disappointing, it is hardly unexpected, and there are so many upcoming positive changes that it’s hard to be a sad panda for long. Currently, the devs are focused on improving Alterac Valley for patch 2.3 and creating new content for WotLK, which will include an outdoor PvP zone, Lake Wintergrasp. Following in the wake of Halaa’s undeniable success, this zone will boast siege warfare, and many other innovations in world PvP.
As for what the new battleground will be like? I’d still love to see an Aldor vs. Scryers battleground; and as much as we all love to see new content drop, we can at least try to satiate ourselves knowing that what we will be getting will continue to advance PvP as we know it. Now; a little less sad panda face please!
